Code Hygiene - Things we need to do to keep our codebase in good working order - Phil Robb

This discussion has several subtopics. Specific ones I would like to address include:
  • Updating the versions of all of our 3rd party dependencies to current, or near-current versions. I.e. we have many 3rd party dependencies that are quite old. This exposes us to potential vulnerabilities that may exist in these older versions but were fixed in newer versions. In some cases, the licensing of newer versions align better with the EPL license used by OpenDaylight, hence the newer version is preferred.
  • Ensuring all appropriate files have a proper copyright/license header. About this time each release cycle, we look at the code base to see if there are any files that should contain a copyright/license header but do not. We will be performing this task in the near future.
  • Ensure that we have source files for all third party dependencies, and that we are creating source jars for all code (in-house and 3rd party) that are easily downloaded along with the binaries.
  • Logging and error reporting normalization
